/Laboratório Poli/USP: CICS – Centro de Inovação para Construção Sustentável

Innovation Center for Sustainable Construction, brings together a multidisciplinary group of researchers dedicated to research and training of human resources for innovation in sustainable construction, located at the University of São Paulo-USP.

The project consists of several overlapping volumes that guarantee flexibility in changing materials, in order to allow research on them, as well as a future expansion of the laboratory.

As a concept, the access areas, vertical circulation and restrooms were located in two separate blocks from the main body of the building. The horizontal circulation connects these two blocks, cutting the building transversally, leaving on one side a continuous laboratory area and on the other side, on the ground floor, the living area with a flexible layout. On the first floor are the spaces for offices and meetings.

The structural systems were designed adopting the premise of extracting the best of each material in terms of efforts, using a mixed structure of concrete, metal and wood, analyzing dimensioning, as well as the fences, adopting industrialized systems composed of materials with adequate performance for use.
