/Biblioteca de São Paulo

The São Paulo Library is located in Parque da Juventude, also designed by aflalo/gasperini, and has the mission of being a model for public libraries in São Paulo.

The building has a large area with zenith lighting, ensuring great flexibility in the internal layout. The structure is formed by twenty pillars and ten beams, spaced every 10 meters. The existing terrace on the ground floor is covered by a tension structure, which houses a cafeteria, seating areas and space for performances. The terraces on the upper floor, facing the east and west facades, which receive more sunlight, are covered by pergolas made with laminated beams of reforested eucalyptus and polycarbonate. The other facades are made of precast concrete slabs with a textured finish.
